2A - Improving Advisement Efficiency: How D’Youville University Moved to a 32- Hour Work Week while Maintaining Student Satisfaction
Abstract
In January 2022, D’Youville University announced its decision to shift from a 5-day to a 4-day (32-hour) work week. In this presentation, we will look at the ways in which the D’Youville advisement team not only adjusted to this institution-wide shift, but in turn, used it as an opportunity to increase office efficiency and bolster student satisfaction. We will begin by discussing the general ways in which DYU advising operates, from cross-training staff to the physical relocation of related offices. Furthermore, we will delve into the challenges that the 32-hour work week presented and how we embraced these to create positive changes. Finally, we will conclude by sharing what is working for our office in hopes that these suggestions can promote advisement efficiency at other institutions. |

2B - Creating An Equitable Student Environment
Abstract
Creating an equitable student environment takes several critical steps that are often misunderstood and/or not genuine. By starting with you, working with 'We' and implementing the results of a climate assessment, a more equitable environment for all can be achieved. During this session, we will be focusing on honoring the dignity and identities of both students and staff, a case study of the University at Buffalo Honors College Generation Honors program as well as a discussion on the realities of achieving an equitable environment. |

2C - Be Prepared: Emergency and Crisis Planning for Advisors
Abstract
The move to remote working and advising in the spring of 2020 caught a lot of advising units unprepared for this disruption to normal circumstances. Now that we have settled into some sort of routine within a pandemic, it is important to be sure that your advising unit is prepared for other types of emergency situations: disruptive or disturbed individuals, campus emergencies, weather emergencies, and health emergencies. This session will assist advisors and advising administrators in evaluating current emergency preparedness plans and filling gaps where emergency plans may not yet exist. We will also discuss how to train advisors on emergency plans and how to incorporate emergency planning into regular staff conversations. |
